1.  How do customers enroll in Upromise?

Customers enroll for free at www.upromise.com.  TOP

2.  How does Upromise work?

After a customer enrolls in the program, they register their payment devices (i.e credit cards, check cards) and identification devices (i.e. loyalty cards). Up to 10 credit cards can be registered. Contributions are "earned" when a member makes a purchase using one of the devices they registered with Upromise at a participating company. Members’ savings contributions – as well as their family and friends’ contributions – are automatically deposited into their Upromise account with every qualifying purchase made with a contributing company. ExxonMobil will contribute 1 cent per gallon of a participating customer’s gasoline purchase. Members can easily monitor their savings on a daily basis through their personalized and secure online Upromise account. Upromise has teamed with leading financial institutions to help members invest their Upromise savings. Members have the option to invest the funds from their Upromise account.   TOP

3.  What portion of ExxonMobil gas purchases will be contributed into the Upromise account?

ExxonMobil will contribute 1 cent per gallon for every gallon of regular, midgrade, and premium grade gasoline a member purchases using an eligible credit, debit, or check card or a Speedpass linked to a card registered with Upromise.  This contribution is subject to a 20 gallon per month minimum purchase requirement.  The threshold is based on activity on all cards within a member's account.  If a Upromise member account buys 19 gallons during a calendar month, they will not receive contributions from ExxonMobil.  Once the member reaches the 20 gallon minimum threshold, they will receive the 1 cent per gallon contribution retroactive to gallon 1.  There will also be opportunities for higher rewards at various times to stimulate usage.  TOP

4.  Do consumers have to use an ExxonMobil card to earn Upromise contributions at ExxonMobil?

No, the program is quite customer friendly in that way by allowing customers to use any credit card or check card they register with Upromise, or a Speedpass they have linked to a registered card. However Fleet cards, both proprietary and issued by 3rd parties are ineligible.   TOP

5.  How is a consumer’s spending tracked?

Upromise tracks a member's spending through various payment devices (i.e. credit cards) registered on their web site.   All member credit card information is securely encrypted and stored, and Upromise will never give or sell member information to any other companies, except as needed to administer the service and track rewards.   TOP

6.  Can customers receive contributions on c-store, car wash or repair bay charges?

No. The offer is valid on gasoline only. Diesel is NOT included.   TOP

7. What ExxonMobil locations are participating in the Upromise program?

The Exxon or Mobil Retailer must process the transaction through the ExxonMobil POS system for contributions to be made automatically.  Customers can use our station locator found on the ExxonMobil web site at www.exxonmobil.com. By participating in Upromise, ExxonMobil is helping its customers with a serious concern – saving for their children’s college education. What better way to build meaningful, long-term relationships with our customers? Most parents believe providing a college education is the most important promise they can keep for their children. Yet, the majority of parents say that the cost of college is out of their reach. Unfortunately, few families are saving adequately, despite their passionate belief that they want their children to go to college. Now, through Upromise, ExxonMobil joins many of America’s most trusted companies in addressing this crisis. Upromise serves the needs of consumers who want to save for college and the need of leading companies who want to create loyal, long-lasting customer relationships.     TOP

12. Is ExxonMobil paying Upromise to participate in this program?

13. Will there be other competitive gas companies participating in Upromise?

No. ExxonMobil has category exclusivity for fuel.     TOP

14. Can the college contribution be combined with other promotions or discounts?

Yes, one of the benefits of the program is the customer does not have to give up one benefit in order to earn the Upromise contribution. For example, a customer using their Citi® Upromise® card to purchase gas at ExxonMobil will earn a contribution to their Upromise account from Citi as well as from ExxonMobil. TOP

TOP

20.  If a customer closes their ExxonMobil account, how will that impact their Upromise account?

Contributions already earned from ExxonMobil are theirs to keep. Customers should make sure they update the Profile section of their Upromise account to insure their tracking information is up to date.

21. If a customer loses their ExxonMobil credit card, must they notify Upromise?

The customer must notify GE Capital about a lost or stolen ExxonMobil credit card right away. When they receive their replacement cards, customers will then need to update their Upromise Profile to reflect the replacement card to ensure continued crediting of their contributions when they make gas purchases with the ExxonMobil credit card.   TOP

22. Are Speedpass charges billed to an ExxonMobil account eligible for Upromise?

Yes, all gasoline purchases made using Speedpass are eligible, provided that the CREDIT CARD LINKED TO THE SPEEDPASS is registered with Upromise.      TOP

23. For what reasons could an ExxonMobil card be rejected during the Upromise enrollment process?

A customer's credit card could be rejected for several reasons, but the most frequent reason is due to data entry errors. Things like invalid zip code or transposing a number in their account number are very common. Upromise needs to validate that the card is valid and is registered to the address indicated as the billing address when enrolling the card at Upromise. The Upromise web site will advise customers if their credit card fails verification.
TOP

24. If a customer wants to know why their card was rejected, to whom should the inquiry be directed - GE or Upromise?

It depends on the reason. If the rejection is for account status, GE Capital (1-800-344-4355) will need to address the issue. If it's an inaccurate address, Upromise will ask the customer to verify accuracy.   TOP

25.  If a customer buys a Coca-Cola product (or any product designated for grocery contribution) at an Exxon or Mobil station, will a contribution be made to the customer's Upromise account?

No. Our systems are not integrated to allow Upromise members to earn contributions from Coca-Cola (or any product participating in the grocery portion of Upromise) if they buy these products in our C-Stores.  At this time, ExxonMobil will only make contributions on gasoline purchases.   TOP

26.  Who funds the contribution made to Upromise members, and does the ExxonMobil Foundation participate in the funding to Upromise members?

ExxonMobil U.S. Fuels Marketing funds the contribution made to Upromise members. The ExxonMobil Foundation funds the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Program. The two programs are not related except they are both sponsored by ExxonMobil and are educational programs that serve the local community. Exxon and Mobil retailers are encouraged to take advantage of both programs. Moreover, Exxon or Mobil Retailers, who are recipients of an Educational Alliance grant, should present the Upromise program as benefit to the families represented at the school designated by you to receive your foundation grant. As members of Upromise, those families would receive a contribution every time they purchased gasoline at your station.   TOP

27.  A penny per gallon doesn’t seem like much – does this add up to significant savings for college?

Try not to focus on just ExxonMobil's contribution. Remember, there are many, many categories available to a customer to earn contributions: groceries, on-line shopping, dining out, credit card spending, buying/selling a home to name just a few. Combine this broad list to the fact that extended family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc) can all direct their contributions to the same beneficiary, and a multiplier effect is created. Over the years, substantial savings can be generated.   TOP

28. How does McDonalds participate in Upromise if they don't accept credit cards?

At the present time, McDonald's uses gift certificates. The customer enters the code on the back of the gift certificate booklet into the Upromise website. McDonald's is beginning to accept credit cards in some parts of the country, but these transactions are NOT currently eligible for Upromise contributions.  TOP

29.  Do the Grocery stores pay the Upromise contribution on packaged goods?

No, the packaged goods manufacturers like Coke, Kellogg's, and Folger’s pay the contribution - but only at select grocery stores. Check the Upromise website for details TOP

30.  To get grocery contributions, does the customer have to pay with a credit card?
